Biotechnology is emerging in Latin America as a major economic sector, building new business and partnering opportunities.
In 2014, Biolatam comes to Biospain as “Biolatam Showcase”, allowing the Latin American bioindustry to be part of one of the largest life sciences events in Europe. At the same time, all of Biospain attendees will have the chance, for the first time, to explore the exciting opportunities that Latin America offers in biotechnology. Delegations for different Latin American countries will be present.
BIOLATAM, a biannual event, aims to consolidate itself as the international showcase for Latin American biotechnology and the main meeting point for the sector in the region.
BIOLATAM 2013 was held in Bogotá in December 2013 and brought together 770 attendees from across 29 countries, 500 of which actively participated in the partnering during which almost 900 one-to-one meetings took place. Download Biolatam 2013 event catalogue.
The host country of Biolatam 2015 will be announced at BIOSPAIN 2014.

México offers an attractive opportunity to develop commercial Biotechnology, new applications are explored in human and animal health, agricultural development, environment protection and biofuels among others. The Mexican Republic has rich biodiversity of species and ecosystems due to its privileged geographic location, variety of climates and complex topography; Skilled human capital with around 142 universities which together offer around 169 programs in areas directly related to biotechnology such as biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, biochemical engineering and biomedical sciences; Mexico has over 10,631 researchers in areas related to biotechnology; competitive costs compared to other countries in areas such as R&D in Biotechnology, product testing, clinical trials and pharmaceutical manufacturing ; intellectual property is growing at an annual growth rate of 9% in the last fourteen years and related to clinical trials Mexico is currently conducting around 2,055 clinical trials, the regulatory environment in Mexico has improved significantly in recent years which makes it stand out among many other clinical trial outsourcing destinations.
